Floodplain Woodlands

The BIFSA Lecture Series“Floodplain Woodlands”Huw ThomasDo you remember the news reports of flooding all over the UK this summer? BIFSA have invited Huw Thomas, a forest hydrologist from the Environmental and Human Sciences Division of Forest Research, to give a presentation on this increasingly important aspect of environmental science. A graduate of Aberystwyth and Cranfield, he is currently conducting research into floodplain woodland restoration, and actively promotes its use as a sustainable method of flood aleviation and management. This lecture will be of particular interest to 2nd year SENR/SBS students as floodplain woodlands are covered in DXX-2305 Catchment Management.Afterwards there will be a chance for more informal debating over cheese and wine (non-alcholoc drinks also provided) 7.30pm, Tuesday 6th November Thoday G23 Tickets are £1 for members, £3.50 for non members and will be on sale in the Thoday foyer most lunchtimes (12.45 to 1.15pm) from Thursday 1st November. Alternatively, all members of the committee will be selling tickets throughout the week so track us down and buy one whenever you see us, you could even come and find us in The Harp at 8:00pm on Wednesday!
