– Spring Term events

Welcome back and hope you all had a good break. We’ve been kept busy over the holiday arranging the diary of events for you all so here it is:

Sunday 28th Jan : Tree Pruning at Henfaes. We’ll be working on the trees in the Agroforestry experiment cutting them back and generally giving them a bit of a tidy-up. This is a great chance to learn all the intricate skills in cutting trees back and it’ll be a good day out for all. [This activity will be weather dependent though – too windy and it may have to be cancelled]. Price : Free for Members, £2.50 for non-members. Please email us now if you want to reserve a place on this event.

Friday 2nd February : Serendipity 2. Come and say hello to us at Serendipity 2. If you want to help out on the stall or have ideas for what to do on the day to demostrate what we, as a society, do, please contact us (bifsa@undeb.bangor.ac.uk). Also, if you’ve got any friends who still haven’t joined BIFSA, make sure you drag them down to visit us so that we can sign them us.

Tuesday 13th February : Guest Lecturer. An Evening with David Wood. David will be talking about Wood Energy and Biofuels. Price : £1 for Members, £3.50 for non-members.

Sunday 18th February : Woodland Walk around Treborth. Nigel Brown, the Curator of the University Botanic Gardens at Treborth, will be taking us on a guided tour of the woodlands around the estate. This includes a SSSI and Semi-Ancient woodlands. Price : Free for Members, £2.50 for non-members. Tuesday 13th March : Guest Lecturer. An Evening with Simon Toomar, Curator of Westonbirt, the National Arboretum. Simon will be talking about the role of the Arboretum in conservation of species. Sunday 18th March : Coach trip to Westonbirt. Following on from Simon’s talk on the Tuesday, BIFSA has arranged a coach trip to the park. Westonbirt houses some of the rarest, most beautiful trees in the world including the Japanese Maple Collection. For more details about Westonbirt, check out this website http://www.forestry.gov.uk/westonbirt. Price : £10 for Members, £15 for non-members. Tickets are limited though so if you want to reserve a space, please contact us immediately.

So, that’s everything that we, as BIFSA, are arranging for you this term.

And don’t forget, every Tuesday you’ll find us in The Waterloo for a social get-together if you want to relax a bit between exams or lectures.

Other events that are happening this year that might be of interest to BIFSA members are:
